Vanessa Monteith‑Hird began her real estate career in 2005 at Royal LePage. After 15 years she made the move to REMAX where she remains. At the time she started her career she was a single mother of three, balancing family life with determination and resilience. Today, her children are grown, educated, and thriving — a testament to the values of hard work and perseverance that also define her professional journey.

Before becoming a licensed REALTOR®, Vanessa spent a decade in the service industry while raising her family and earned a Diploma in Business Administration. She purchased her first home at the age of 23, sparking a passion for real estate that would later become her career.

In 2011, Vanessa married Ian Hird, who joined her growing business in 2020, bringing his expertise in business and passion for photography to the team. Together, they expanded Vanessa Monteith‑Hird & Associates, welcoming Cathy Duggan in 2023 and Kim Dougan in 2024. Ian and Vanessa are also real estate investors with many rental properties and have renovated 9 properties together. 

With over 43+ years of combined experience, the VMH Team is dedicated to guiding clients through one of life’s most important decisions — buying or selling a home. Cathy Duggan

Cathy grew up in Campbell River and has spent most of her adult life here — it truly is the best place to live! Cathy and her husband Michael share a blended family of six wonderful grown children and three cherished grandchildren. Like Cathy, Michael was raised in Campbell River, and together they appreciate how fortunate we are to be surrounded by ocean, rivers, lakes, and islands that make this community so special.

Cathy’s real estate career began in 2005 at Royal Lepage (that is where Cathy and Vanessa met), and she has loved every minute of helping clients with their real estate needs. Her goal is to make the process enjoyable, seamless, and stress‑free. Kim Dougan
Licensed Realtor

With over 30 years of business experience, Kim Dougan brings a wealth of knowledge and professionalism to her clients. Her career began in the insurance industry, followed by several years as a licensed mortgage broker. Kim’s expertise in finance later led her to the automotive industry, where many in Campbell River will remember her as the General Sales Manager at Campbell River Toyota.

In 2024, Kim obtained her real estate license, bringing her passion for excellence and client care into the real estate industry. Known for her integrity, hard work, and dedication, Kim continues to serve past clients, friends, and family with the same trusted professionalism she has built her reputation on.

Born and raised in Campbell River, Kim has deep local roots. Her family owned a logging company in Jackson Bay, where she spent much of her childhood. Today, she is a proud mom to her adult son and stepmom to two wonderful adult step daughters.

Kim’s combination of business expertise, community connection, and commitment to client success makes her a valued member of the Vanessa Monteith‑Hird & Associates Team.

Ian Hird
Unlicensed Assistant, Client Care & Photographer

Ian Hird was born and raised on Vancouver Island and moved to Campbell River in 1996 to continue his career as a Forestry Engineer. Following his time in forestry, Ian worked in the construction industry and later served as a manager for a local business.

In 2020, Ian joined his wife, Vanessa, to help expand her thriving real estate business. Together, they created a team that offers clients unique “in‑house” services not commonly found with other real estate groups.

Ian has completed the real estate course and works as an unlicensed assistant, bringing a wide range of skills to the VMH Team. A talented handyman with a truck and trailer, he often helps clients prepare their homes for sale by providing services such as dump runs, power washing, lighting updates, and lawn care.

Ian also developed strong photography skills, offering drone photography, professional floor plans, and operating the team’s advanced 3D virtual tour camera. He produces marketing videos and manages behind‑the‑scenes administrative duties, ensuring clients receive exceptional care and service.

Known for his dedication and hands‑on approach, Ian enjoys working indirectly with clients to make the selling process seamless. From Vanessa’s expert market evaluations to MLS listings within 72 hours. His commitment to excellence and teamwork ensures every client benefits from the combined talents and passion of the VMH Team.
